Here is what a Family Therapy session actually looks like
Most families who reach out have been dealing with the same tension for a long time. Maybe it is a parent and child who cannot get through a single conversation without it escalating. Maybe it is siblings carrying years of unspoken resentment. Maybe it is a family going through a major change, a loss, a transition, a rupture, and nobody knows how to talk about it.
The love is there. The words just keep coming out wrong.
What happens in a session
This is not a space where everyone is simply asked to take turns sharing their feelings or complete communication worksheets.
My role is to help uncover what is happening beneath the arguments, misunderstandings, and tension. I ask the questions that bring hidden patterns into the open, helping each family member understand not only what is being said, but also what has remained unsaid for months or even years.
Family therapy is about understanding the dynamics that keep people stuck and creating a space where everyone feels heard without blame, judgment, or taking sides. Sessions are 90–120 minutes, for up to four family members, and are available both online and in person.
I work with parent-child conflict, sibling relationships, family stress during major life transitions, communication difficulties, grief, emotional distance, and other family challenges.
If something in your family feels strained, disconnected, or difficult to navigate, that is reason enough to reach out.
What you leave with
By the end of the first session, many families experience a sense of relief and clarity. Not because every problem has been solved, but because they begin to see the deeper pattern driving the conflict.

You will leave with a clearer understanding of what is happening beneath the surface, practical insights into your family dynamics, and specific steps that each person can begin applying at home.

Many families tell me after their first session that they finally had a conversation they had been needing for a long time.
What changes over time
Meaningful change happens when family members begin to understand each other differently and respond differently.

Over time, families often notice fewer repeated arguments, less defensiveness, and a greater ability to communicate without shutting down, withdrawing, or escalating conflict. Conversations become more productive, relationships feel safer, and trust begins to rebuild.

The goal is not to create a perfect family. It is to help create a family where people feel understood, supported, and better equipped to navigate challenges together.
